In general, there is a serious lack of facilities for young women who, due to poverty, need free education. In Thailand, free education available to both genders is a constitutional right. Young men can enroll as novices to study with monks in temple operated schools. However, due to constraints of religious gender segregation, this infrastructure is not available to young women.
After monitoring Grandma Cares workshops for several years, Mrs.Somboon Suprasert, Charter President of Zonta International Chiang Mai, realized the great need for orphaned girl grandchildren to receive a quality education opportunity.
This activity involves life skill training of 200 orphaned girls to teach responsible and cohesive thinking and behavior toward their family, their friends, their community and their country. The curriculum was developed by the United Nations The ten points discussed in the workshop are important for each one of us to be mindful throughout our daily life:
- Positive thinking
- Know your own potential
- Human relations
- Be the other person
- Communication skill
- Decision making
- Problem solving
- Managing emotions and stress
- Pride in oneself
- Take full responsibility in your family, community and country
This training took place on a Saturday at the boarding school in Lamphun province, Chalermprakiat School for girls. ZICC supports this school of 400 girls. |
